Cox & Kings India Ltd wins prestigious Global Award at
WTM
Mr. Peter Kerkar
the Global CEO for Cox & Kings India Ltd has been
presented with one of ten prestigious World Travel Market
Global Wards at WTM’s VIP Opening Ceremony and Reception
today, Monday 10 November. He received the award from World
Travel Market’s Chairman, Fiona Jeffery.
WTM’s Global Media Network, comprising of key travel
industry media around the world, were invited to nominate
companies who have made a remarkable contribution to their
region’s travel and tourism industry.
Nominated by leading Indian travel trade publication
Trav Talk, Peter Kerkar, Global CEO, has transformed Cox and
Kings from a small UK tour operator into one of India’s
largest travel companies providing high class international
and domestic travel through its Indian offices and global
subsidiaries based in UK, Japan, UAE
and Singapore.
The Indian travel industry is continuing with its rapid
growth curve and he has positioned the company to reap its
benefits. The company has grown by over 25 per cent year on
year beating industry estimates and is a leading player in
South Asia.
Under Mr Kerkar’s leadership, the company has forayed into
online travel as the Indian traveller becomes more mature
and tech savvy. He has also launched an ambitious plan to
expand the company’s offline presence with the launch of
franchisee outlets. In the last nine months the organisation
has opened 20 Cox and Kings Outlets across the country, with
a target to achieve 150 stores by December 2009.
His innovative contributions to the Indian travel industry
include being a founder member of the Word Travel and
Tourism Council in India through to introducing the
country’s first pan-Indian luxury train, soon to be launched
in partnership with the Indian Railways. This train
programme is expected to lead to a paradigm shift in the
promotion of India as a tourist destination.
